Leadership

In my first semester at Illinois, I called my mom and told her everything had somehow fallen into place. I somehow had picked the perfect program, sorority, and school. Little did I know this was just the beginning of my you can learn a little more about how I spent my time in college and how proud I am to be part of these communities.

PHI MU FRATERNITY

I never imagined I would be a sorority girl, but apparently the pipeline from this to chapter president have a pretty high correlation. I joined Phi Mu in the fall of 2019 when I came to Illinois and had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. Since then, I have had the opportunity to watch my chapter grow and thrive while getting to be part of it all. I began my term as new member educator in December of 2021 with COVID-19 still dictating much of what sorority life looked like. Nevertheless, I was able to successfully carry out two new member programs and teach over fifty women what it truly means to be a Phi Mu. After this, I was elected chapter president in December of 2022. Over the year I served as president, I had the opportunity to lead our chapter with the ten other members of the executive committee, countless members of Phi Mu national and area teams, and university staff. The Illinois chapter has had our best retention rate since our recharter and, most importantly, the highest overall member satisfaction rate since I have been in the chapter. Although this position was incredibly stressful, I am so thankful for all the opportunities it gave me and ways I was able to grow throughout it. Throughout all of these positions, I learned confidence. I learned to have confidence in the decisions I make, my ability to lead, and ultimately, myself.

ILLINOIS STUDENT ADMISSIONS REPRESENTATIVE

When I first got this position, I thought this was a fancy name for a tour guide, but after two years of being involved with admissions at Illinois, I have learned it is much, much more. Not only have I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who are interested in Illinois, but also getting to help shape the future of my University. I now work as an Admissions Intern, where I get more hands on communication with prospective families and work on internal structure to create the most authentic Illinois visit. I love getting to tell people everyday about why going to Illinois was the best decision I've ever made.

ILLINOIS STUDENT GOVERNMENT

When I started my time on student government as a senator representing the College of Media, I had no idea what I signed up for. In this position, I was able to help write and approve bills urging the University to create many changes on campus including more inclusive spaces for different religious rituals and creating an affordable textbook program. After this, I was asked to serve as the Press Secretary for the next assembly of student government. In this position, I have gotten to write the press releases pertaining to the work the senate creates and answer questions about how this will impact the student body. Student Government also provided me several opportunities to learn about different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds through travel and workshops. Throughout my time in Student Government, I have not only gotten to lead on campus but also learn about the world and how to create more inclusive spaces.
